Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to join our team in Austin, Texas. This long-term contract position offers the opportunity to work within the financial services industry, ensuring accurate payroll processing and accounting operations. The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing payroll reconciliations, journal entries, and compliance with multi-state payroll regulations.
Responsibilities:
• Reconcile payroll and benefits-related general ledger accounts, including vendor payments, insurance billings, and thrift payments, on a monthly basis.
• Prepare, review, and submit payroll journal entries for approval and make necessary adjustments for exceptional transactions.
• Collaborate with the Accounting Department to resolve reconciliation issues and provide data for quarterly leave adjustments.
• Process and audit payroll data, ensuring compliance with multi-state payroll regulations and company policies.
• Assist with internal and external audits, including annual pension contribution coordination and workers' compensation estimates.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records for W-2 forms, payroll tax reporting, and taxable fringe benefits.
• Respond to payroll-related inquiries, providing exceptional customer service to employees and association personnel.
• Maintain payroll-related files and documentation, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
• Submit journal vouchers, wires, and vendor payments while adhering to established timelines.
• Manage and update accounting software with current employee information, adding or removing users as needed. Requirements • Proven experience with full-cycle payroll processes, including multi-state payroll and payroll tax reporting.
• Proficiency in using ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll systems.
• Strong knowledge of payroll reconciliation, journal entries, and general ledger accounting.
• Experience handling payroll for organizations with over 500 employees.
• Familiarity with payroll garnishments and taxable fringe benefit reporting.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve payroll discrepancies.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in payroll processing.
