Description We are looking for a skilled Payroll Accountant to join our team in Berkeley, California. In this long-term contract position, you will play a crucial role in managing payroll operations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and maintaining accurate financial records. This opportunity requires someone with strong attention to detail, expertise in payroll processes, and a commitment to excellence. Responsibilities: • Process weekly union payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all regulations. • Prepare and submit state and federal payroll tax forms in a timely manner. • Conduct thorough audits of payroll operations, including union, workers' compensation, and other related areas. • Reconcile general ledger accounts associated with payroll activities. • Maintain personnel and equipment records using various software programs. • Compile and deposit monthly retirement reports. • Prepare federal and state fuel tax returns accurately. • Manage and update salary and bonus worksheets. • Provide cross-training and backup support for other payroll team members. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered. • Solid understanding of payroll processes, including garnishments and benefits distribution. • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent organizational abilities. • Demonstrated ability to handle high-volume tasks under pressure and meet strict deadlines. • Self-motivated and capable of working independently to achieve objectives. • Experience with full-cycle payroll, ADP Workforce Now, and multi-state payroll systems. • Familiarity with payroll tax reporting and related compliance requirements.
