Key Responsibilities:

Promote, lead and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with Aecon’s Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation. Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections. Supervise day to day operations of the asphalt plant site to meet production goals. Oversee and operate Astec Double Barrel asphalt plant to produce hot mix asphalt according to mix designs and project specifications. Oversee and perform truck loading and ticketing operations. Inspect and perform preventative maintenance on plant, making necessary repairs and leading annual maintenance program planning. Schedule the timely delivery of raw materials (asphalt cement oil, aggregates, fuel) Oversee the safe unloading of asphalt cement from delivery truck. Oversee the stockpile materials in a manner to reduce segregation Document and diarize daily production report  Communicate daily with customers on order requirements and customer satisfaction. Work with quality control staff to ensure compliance. Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, coaching and cross training

 

Required Knowledge and Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience supervising Asphalt Plant operations Experience operating stationary Asphalt Plants (Astec Double Drum or comparable) in a metropolitan environment Proven ability to operate equipment such as front-end loader, man lift and skid steer. Proven mechanical equipment aptitude for general plant maintenance. Experience in welding, fabrication and electrical troubleshooting would be considered an asset Familiar with the Code of Practice for Asphalt Plants in Alberta Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills Proficient Computer Skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and software related to Asphalt Plant Controls (experience with Astec Software is an asset) Must maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License Training in First Aid, Legislative Awareness, Fall Protection, Working at Heights, Rigging and Hosting is desirable. Ability to work the project schedule which may include overtime, weekends, and/or night shift.   Must comply with the company’s drug & alcohol program, including testing requirement.
