Job Summary

*The schedule for this position is Mon-Fri 3pm-1130p. A full-time day shift (M-F; 7:00-3:30) training period is required for the first 2 weeks of employment Under the general direction of the Administrative Manager, the incumbent is responsible for transport of patients, specimens and errands to other units, special study areas and laboratories throughout the hospital complex; Incumbent retrieves ED equipment from patient care units and is responsible for internal ED patient transport. *Please see below for job description: GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: Under the general direction of the Operations Manager, the incumbent is responsible for transport of patients, specimens and errands to other units, special study areas and laboratories throughout the hospital complex; Incumbent retrieves ED equipment from patient care units and is responsible for internal ED patient transport. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Transports patients to inpatient units, clinics and special study areas. Delivers specimens to those laboratories not on the pneumatic tube system Transports deceased patients to the Morgue. Retrieves and tracks equipment owned by Emergency Department and ambulance companies. Runs errands as needed by clinical and Administrative Staff. Provides internal transport/escort of patients within the Emergency Department. Responsible for acknowledging and reporting an emergency situation, moving and lifting patients, being familiar with the operation of the oxygen tanks, recognizing other equipment and understanding special needs of pediatric patients and those in traction. Counts and checks condition of Emergency Department stretchers. Transports broken stretchers to Metal Shop for repair. Ensures each stretcher has a full oxygen tank in each basket. Patrols ED and removes empty oxygen tanks to appropriate storage. Transports used code carts to Exchange Room and delivers replacement code cart. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Ability to read, speak, and follow oral and written instructions in English. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to push, pull and move patients up to 300 pounds. Ability to lift items weighing 50 pounds.


 

Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent required Successful completion of on-the-job orientation and training. Working knowledge of Safety, Universal Precaution, and OSHA guidelines.
