Summary:
+ The Patient Safety Manager (PSM) is responsible for the planning, administration, and monitoring of the patient safety program. The PSM supports daily activities to ensure safety concerns are addressed while also leading patient safety process improvement opportunities for selected projects and duties as assigned. Additionally, the PSM is a liaison with the following corporate departments: Risk Management/ Legal, Quality and Patient Safety, the Penn Medicine Academy, the Office of Medical Affairs (OMA), the Office of Patient Affairs (OPA), Penn Medicine Privacy Office and Office of General Counsel.The PSM leads the work to improve quality and patient safety in the organization. The PSM relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The PSM works in collaboration with entity leadership: including but not limited to Senior Leadership team, Quality and Safety department directors, the Patient Safety team, and clinical staff leadership to lead the organization to outstanding performance on key metrics in quality and patient safety.
Responsibilities:
+ Sustain and influence systematic process for review and follow up of safety events
+ Ensure timely and comprehensive review and follow up of serious/ sentinel safety events. Make recommendations for thorough corrective action.
+ Partner with Patient Safety Team toward timely completion of milestones in the safety investigation processes (RCA, ACA, FCA, etc.)
+ Conduct safety investigations, including ACAs and/or RCAs.
+ Partner with risk managers, patient safety officers, regulatory affairs, and senior leadership to advance key patient safety priorities and ensure with compliance with regulatory agencies.
+ Analyze data (i.e., Safety Net reports, patient safety indicators, hospital-acquired conditions, etc.) to identify and prioritize trends requiring focused improvement efforts.
+ Facilitate dialogue among stakeholders and subject matter experts to detect patient safety risks, design plans for mitigating risks and preventing harm, and support implementation and sustainment of patient safety plans.
+ Serve as a subject matter expert and information for initial systems’ design or system redesign.
+ Lead change management. Engage with teams throughout the hospital to identify and increase awareness of patient safety risks and related process improvements.
+ Participate in hospital-level committees charged with advancing patient safety.
+ Continuously evaluate and evolve processes related to safety review and follow up.
Credentials:
+ Certified Profess in Pat Sfty (Required)
+ CPPS Certification (Required within 2 years of hire).
+ Project Management Professional Certification
+ PMI PMP Certification
Education or Equivalent Experience:
+ Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
+ Education Specialization:Healthcare-related fieldEquivalent Experience:•And 5+ years In a healthcare-related role
+ Master of Arts or Science
+ Education Specialization:Healthcare, business, patient safety and/or health policy- related fieldEquivalent Experience:•Or 2+ years In a healthcare-related leadership role
