The Patient Safety Assistant ensures the safety of patients.
**Job Description:**
**Job Responsibilities:**
Under the general management and supervision of the Nurse Manager and/or direction of the Registered Nurse, performs a variety of activities that include, but are not limited to,
+ Direct and continuous observation of patient at a distance no greater than arm’s length from patient.
+ Participates in patient rounding as and when directed by the Registered Nurse.
+ Ensures environmental safety for patient.
+ Answers call lights and ensures patient care issues are directed to the Registered Nurse.
+ Restocking department supplies and precautions stations.
+ Transports patients within the department and to in-hospital locations as needed.
+ Clean patient equipment following the designated process.
+ Completes patient safety sitter competency. Completes all required documentation for patient care.
+ Communicates any and all changes in patient behavior to the Registered Nurse.
+ Involved as directed with quality improvement studies and activities specific to the unit.
+ Considers specific cultural beliefs and practices when caring for patients. Utilizes interpreter services for patients with limited English proficiency.
+ Performs all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules and regulations as set forth by appropriate regulatory and governmental agencies and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policy and procedure.
**Required Qualifications:**
**Education/Experience Required:**
+ High School diploma/GED/or enrolled and near completion of High School Health Sciences program.
+ 0 - 1 years of experience.
**Registration/Certification:**
+ Basic Life Support current certification required within 3 months of hire
+ Completes Hospital approved de-escalation training during unit-based orientation
