This role collaborates closely with the Patient Safety Specialist, Regulatory Specialist, Patient Relations team, and the Privacy and Compliance Officer to support a Just Culture through risk event reporting, investigations, and follow-up. The candidate will contribute to regulatory readiness, Department of Health investigations, Joint Commission compliance, and assist with complaint and grievance investigations, as well as privacy and compliance matters. Responsibilities:
+ Adheres to the on-call rotation to be informed of any patient safety occurrences.
+ Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors and Code of Conduct.
+ Annually reviews/ promotes The Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goals by planning, directing, and monitoring implementation aspects related to those goals.
+ Annually reviews/ promotes the organizational Patient Safety Plan.
+ Adhere to regulatory requirements set forth by federal and state agencies relative to patient safety.
+ Prepares and participates in announced and unannounced surveys and inspections (DOH, CMS, TJC) at all UPMC Susquehanna sites; promotes ongoing accreditation readiness.
+ Review patient safety occurrences with departmental leaders and managers, identifying trends, making recommendations for action, and assuring compliance with the program.
+ Serves as a role model to foster a patient safety culture in the organization.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Participate in the hospital-wide performance improvement efforts through data gathering and analysis.
+ Communicates significant events, using the Patient Safety Triad model and through established mechanisms within the required time frame.
+ Develop and present formal and informal patient safety education to hospital staff throughout the organization on an ongoing basis.
+ Review patient safety events; investigate actual and potential risks in the clinical operations of the hospital through rounds, chart reviews, interviews, physical inspection and other means as necessary.
+ Master's degree in nursing or a healthcare-related area is required.
+ 5 years of clinical experience OR experience in patient safety and regulatory or a combination of both is required.
+ Ability to work with a variety of Microsoft office software systems.
+ Analytical ability to prepare, review and present statistical data.
+ Strong organizational skills to efficiently manage multiple projects concurrently.
+ Interpersonal skills to work with management (particularly nurse managers), physicians, and all levels of staff.
+ High level of communication and written skills.
+ Ability to maintain professional composure during regulatory surveys and unannounced inspections.
+ Travel is approximately 25% to other hospital sites.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Maintain current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the Commonwealth of PennsylvaniaCertification in CPPS (Certified Professional in Patient Safety) within two (2) years of hire.
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
