Job Overview:

The Patient Monitor monitors the cardiac rhythm and identifies changes in the cardiac rhythm and reports their findings to the Primary Registered Nurse caring for the patient. The Patient Monitor knows which patients are on Telemetry and their bed location and assures awareness of ethical standards of practice as defined by The Employee Service Standards of Behavior.

The Patient Monitor is responsible for reporting identified safety issues and knowledge of the patient population served and communicates effectively and collaborates with nurses and other patient care providers.

The Patient Monitor is an individual practitioner and interdisciplinary team member integrating all aspects of the provision of care and individualizes the plan of care to address a specific patient's needs. The Patient Monitor assures safety in practice inclusive of the principles of evidence-based practice by maintaining a realization of own individual level of knowledge and experience and assumes responsibility for his/her own professional advancement.

Qualifications:

Required:

High school graduate or equivalent (GED)Completion of a Certified Telemetry Monitor CourseAbility to read, write, speak and comprehend English

Essential Functions:

Monitor Telemetry console to identify cardiac rhythms and changes in rhythmsCleans equipment per manufacturer's guidelines between patient useMaintains monitor transmitters in a safe location when not in useMaintains alarms between 40 and 120 unless otherwise orderedRuns and mounts strips per protocolIdentifies cardiac rhythm strips correctlyMaintains an adequate supply of equipment, i,e, leads, batteries and paperEnsures monitor count is done at the end of every shiftChanges the printer paper when indicatedPrepares patient for cardiac monitoring using proper techniqueChecks leads and inserts a new battery before applying to the patientVerifies patient's identity before applicationProperly prepares skin for monitoringOrients patients to equipment and rationale for use before applying the transmitter
