Are you ready to take the next step in your patient care career? UPMC Magee is seeking a full-time, regular Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our dynamic Pre/Post-Operative Unit. This role offers a structured schedule of four 9-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with hours ranging from 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM—and best of all, no holidays, nights, or weekends.
As a vital member of our surgical support team, you'll play a key role in preparing patients for surgery, assisting in their recovery, and supporting discharge processes. We’re looking for candidates with hospital/PCT experience—and if you have IV experience, that’s a plus.

Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Daily Living Support
+ Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, repositioning, and transporting.
+ Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
+ Apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per protocol.
+ Provide basic patient education under RN supervision.
Clinical Skills & Procedures
+ Perform core nursing assistant duties: vital signs, blood glucose checks, weights, intake/output (I&O), specimen collection, Foley care, and telemetry application.Competently perform at least 4 advanced skills:
+ Examples: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressings, Foley catheter or IV removal, bladder scan, straight catheterization, point-of-care testing.Maintain competency in at least one advanced skill as required by department need:
+ Examples: venipuncture, arrhythmia monitoring, NG tube removal.
Communication & Teamwork
+ Report changes in patient status and provide feedback to the RN.
+ Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, families, and healthcare team.
+ Participate in unit activities: answering call lights, phones, delivering meals, transporting patients.
+ Foster positive relationships and support a respectful, inclusive work environment.
Professional Development & Accountability
+ Accept feedback constructively and seek learning opportunities.
+ Participate in self-review and performance improvement.
+ Support department initiatives and quality improvement projects.
+ Assist with planning and prioritizing tasks when needed.
Documentation & Safety
+ Document care accurately in the medical record.
+ Report equipment issues and ensure proper functioning.
+ Follow all hospital policies, safety protocols, and standard precautions.
+ Limit medication handling to distribution to the nurse.
Education & Experience
+ High school diploma or GED required
+ Plus one of the following:
+ 1 year of general healthcare experience
+ 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days
+ Enrollment in a PT/OT/PA or related healthcare program with at least one clinical rotation completed
+ Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field
Training
+ Completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class
+ Completion of eRecord training
+ EMT or Paramedic certification preferred (or current enrollment in such a program)
️ Certifications & Clearances
+ CPR certification (AHA standards: didactic + skills demo) within 30 days of hire
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required
+ ACLS preferred
+ Act 34 clearance with renewal
