Schedule: This role includes rotating day and night shifts, with a total of 24 work hours scheduled over a 6-week period. Minimum of 12 hours must be during nights and weekends.

Enrollment in nursing school or health care related major highly preferred.

Title and Salary are determined based upon education and experience.

Purpose: The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides routine patient care and supports departmental services in line with established policies and procedures. Working under the direction of a nurse or physician, the PCT helps ensure the highest quality of care is maintained at all times. Core responsibilities include assisting patients with daily living activities such as bathing, feeding, toileting, transporting, ambulating, and repositioning. The PCT also performs point-of-care testing, including blood glucose checks, records vital signs, monitors intake and output, applies telemetry monitors, and supports safety measures like applying TED hoses and SCDs. Additional tasks include simple dressing changes, collecting specimens, using bladder scanners, and assisting with patient transport. Competency in all these areas is required. Depending on departmental needs, the PCT may also be trained to perform advanced skills such as phlebotomy, peripheral IV and Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia recognition, 12-lead EKGs, and managing NG tubes.

Responsibilities:

Suggests and supports departmental improvements and quality initiatives Takes ownership of assignments and views challenges positively Maintains awareness of how behavior impacts department efficiency Performs core nursing assistant duties: ADLs, vital signs, glucose checks, I&O, weights, telemetry, and safety measures (TEDs/SCDs) Completes tasks like dressing changes, restraint use, bladder scans, specimen collection, and patient transport Reports equipment issues and communicates effectively with other departments Builds respectful, professional relationships and assists with unit-wide tasks (e.g., call lights, phones, meal trays) Accepts feedback, identifies learning needs, and seeks opportunities to improve skills Communicates clearly with the healthcare team and respects diversity and professionalism Supports a safe work environment and demonstrates accountability and motivation Assists with patient care procedures and therapies; reports changes in patient condition Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction; manages restraints per protocol Follows all patient care and hospital policies, including safety and documentation standards Completes clerical duties and performs work efficiently and on time Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. In addition to the standard required competencies, the Patient Care Technician will achieve and maintain competency and/or perform at least 1 or more of the following advanced skills based on department operational need: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12 lead EKG, and NG tubes clamping and removal.
