**UPMC Hamot is looking for a Casual Patient Care Technician to join the Float Pool!**

**4, 8, or 12 hour shifts available!**
**_Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience._**
**Purpose:** The Patient Care Technician supports nurses and physicians by providing routine patient care and performing essential clinical tasks. Responsibilities include assisting with daily activities like bathing and feeding, monitoring vital signs and blood glucose, collecting specimens, and helping prevent hospital-acquired conditions. The role also involves advanced skills such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and catheter or IV removal, depending on departmental needs. All required competencies must be achieved and maintained to ensure high-quality patient care.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Provides patient care, assists with procedures and daily activities. Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
+ Provides feedback to RN, reports changes in patient status.
+ Performs core nursing assistant tasks: blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care.
+ Performs at least four additional tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal.
+ Reports equipment malfunctions, communicates with other departments. Establishes professional, respectful relationships.
+ Contributes to unit activities: responding to call lights, phones, passing meal trays, transporting patients.
+ Receives feedback, identifies learning needs, improves knowledge and skills. Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction, manages patient restraints.
+ Communicates effectively with healthcare team, understands cultural diversity and workplace safety.
+ Adheres to policies and procedures, complies with safety standards. Supports department changes, projects, and quality initiatives.
+ Documents in medical records, performs clerical functions.
+ Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping/removal.
+ Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Must have either:
+ 1 year of general healthcare experience.
+ 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion.
+ Enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training with at least one clinical rotation.
+ Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
+ Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class. Successful completion of basic information system training.
+ Microcomputer experience preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
+ EMT or Paramedic certification, or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
+ Access to medications is limited to distribution to the nurse.
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within one year of hire or transfer
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
+ NIH Stroke Scale (NIH) within 6 months of hire or transfer.
+ Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within one year of hire or transfer.
