This is an amazing opportunity to work with a department that contributes to a broad range of impactful health sciences research programs. As a team member, you will support the success of initiatives in areas such as basic science, translational research, mechanistic studies, and population health. The Patient Accounts Representative serves as a key point of contact for patients and visitors, providing front-line support within the Accounting Office. This role is responsible for managing inquiries related to billing, account statements, and patient services while maintaining a professional and patient-focused environment. Location: Chapel Hill, NC Pay: 19/hr. Terms: 11 month contract **Key Responsibilities** + Greet and assist patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner + Answer incoming phone calls and route inquiries to appropriate departments or team members + Respond to billing and account-related questions, explain statements, and guide patients through payment options + Accept and process payments; issue receipts and maintain documentation + Manage incoming and outgoing mail and faxes, including scanning, sorting, and distributing correspondence + Document patient interactions and inquiries accurately in accordance with office procedures + Work collaboratively with billing, clinical, and administrative staff to resolve account discrepancies + Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and institutional privacy standards + Ensure a clean, organized, and welcoming reception and waiting area **Qualifications** **Education & Experience:** + High school diploma or GED required + 1–2 years of experience in a healthcare, dental, or customer service setting + Familiarity with billing systems, insurance processes, and EHR/EMR platforms preferred + Background in both dental and medical billing environments is highly desirable **Skills & Competencies:** + Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills + Professional demeanor and focus on providing exceptional customer service + Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable using digital records systems + Highly detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and organizational abilities + Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and a strong commitment to patient confidentiality _This job description is a complete list of all desired skills, but not all are required.
