Description
We are seeking a Patient Account Representative to join a fast-paced and collaborative Patient Financial Services (PFS) team. The Patient Account Representative is responsible for accurate and timely billing, collections, payment processing, and account resolution for patient accounts. The Patient Account Representative will work under close supervision to perform routine and repetitive duties, but must be detail-oriented and proactive in handling account discrepancies and payer communications.
Responsibilities:
+ Follow up on unpaid accounts through payer websites or phone communication.
+ Investigate and resolve underpayments; file appeals when necessary.
+ Review and resolve claim denials and rejections.
+ Process bad debt transfers, adjustments, and contractual write-offs.
+ Review worklists in EPIC and resolve claim edits.
+ Rebill claims based on denial follow-ups.
+ Post payments and adjustments; manage undistributed payment worklists.
+ Process refunds and payment transfers between billing systems.
+ Enter charges and resolve charge issues; perform charge corrections.
+ Maintain professional communication with internal teams, payers, physicians, and patients.
+ Meet weekly productivity goals set by team leadership.
+ Support charity application processing and patient advocacy functions.
+ Handle incoming mail and assist with backlog organization.
+ Perform account lookups and EPIC navigation.
+ Review correspondence and determine appropriate next steps.
Requirements
Job Requirements:
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent
+ Prior experience in patient billing, accounts receivable, or medical collections preferred.
+ Basic understanding of EPIC or similar healthcare billing systems is a plus.
+ Familiarity with government, managed care, and commercial payer processes.
+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
+ Ability to follow detailed instructions and handle routine tasks effectively.
+ Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
+ Ability to work onsite in Palo Alto, CA.
+ Availability for early morning start time (between 6:30 AM–7:00 AM).
