Pathology Tech Specialist
**Employment Type:** Full time **Shift:** Day Shift **Description:** **Education** + **Required:** Bachelor’s Degree and one year of clinical internship. **Credentials/Licensure** + Minimum: Histotechnologist (HTL) or other applicable certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). **Related Experience** + **Required:** None + **Preferred:** Three (3) years of hospital laboratory experience **Skills & Abilities** + **Preferred:** + Strong computer skills + Excellent customer service abilities + Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills **Computer Competency** Familiarity with standard desktop and Windows based computer system, including email, eLearning, intranet and computer navigation. Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions. **Physical & Mental Requirements** + Frequent **walking, standing (80% of the workday), and bending** + Must be able to **lift containers/boxes weighing 40+ lbs** + Role requires **attention to detail** and **focus** for all lab testing + Must adapt to **frequent interruptions** and changing priorities + **20–50%** of the workday involves **computer data entry** + Must be able to **pass a color - blind test** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ▪ Operates all histology equipment and performs all histological procedures. ▪ Performs special staining and instrument troubleshooting. ▪ Performs analytical functions such as calculating, weighing and correlating of information. ▪ Understands and correctly uses computer systems. ▪ Organizes and prioritizes work to meet customer needs. ▪ Operates appropriate equipment and support machines. ▪ Performs complex instrument and / or process troubleshooting. ▪ Develops and maintains technical procedures for laboratory processes and workflows. ▪ Maintains high quality laboratory processes. ▪ Evaluates new products and procedures; makes recommendations on adoption. ▪ Acts as a Team Lead in improving technical and non-technical staff productivity in a supportive manner. ▪ Assists Manager with interviewing job candidates; makes recommendations for hire. ▪ Monitors budget, labor and supply expenses along with volume numbers; works with Manager to resolve expenses that do not meet budget. ▪ Gathers evaluation feedback and prepares colleagues' formal evaluation for a designated number of staff. (Manager performs actual feedback with colleagues.) ▪ Coaches colleagues on performance issues, completing necessary documentation, in conjunction with management. ▪ Edits bi-monthly time sheets for lab colleagues. ▪ Compiles the work schedule. ▪ Coordinates and assigns the work of others; assists as necessary to ensure quick turnaround times. ▪ Educates students, using clinical knowledge when training staff and students with new and current procedures and instruments. ▪ Actively promotes a positive work environment. ▪ Coordinates adequate inventory of reagents and supplies. ▪ Assists Physicians and other clients in the proper test selection (onsite or send out) based on Physician order. ▪ Performs other related duties as assigned. **Our Commitment** Rooted in our Mission and Core Values, we honor the dignity of every person and recognize the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents each colleague brings.
