The North America R&D Flowers team is currently seeking a Pathology Associate located in Gilroy, California. This position is 100% onsite and does not support visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Role purpose
Support plant disease diagnosis using molecular biology tools, such as DNA, RNA, and protein extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, ELISA, and hybridization.Perform the microbial identification through their taxonomyAssist the development of protocols for new technologies and subsequently the delivery of innovations in strong collaboration with other R&D, Operation, Marketing, and Supply Chain team members.Accountabilities
Perform molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA/protein extraction, PCR, ELISA) on plant, soil, and microbial samplesExecute and develop plant disease diagnosis protocols using various molecular toolsCollaborate with Breeding Team to evaluate new technologies for disease diagnosisMaintain accurate records of diagnosis results in database systemsWork independently in the laboratory while collaborating with cross-functional teamsEnsure compliance with regulatory requirements, lab safety protocols, and chemical usage guidelinesManage lab inventory, equipment maintenance, and supply procurementMaintain a clean and organized laboratory environmentSupport disease trait development initiativesAdapt to new challenges and learn emerging techniques as requiredCompany Description

Qualifications
Critical knowledge
B.S. or MSc degree or equivalent in Biology or AgricultureBS with 5+ years of experience, orMasters with 3+ years of experienceExpertise in molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, ELISA) and plant disease diagnosisKnowledge of laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, and agricultural practicesUnderstanding of plant breeding concepts and crop quality improvementStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with protocol development experienceExcellent data management and record-keeping abilities, including database proficiencyEffective communication and teamwork skills for cross-functional collaborationDetail-oriented with the ability to maintain a clean, organized laboratory environmentAdaptable and motivated to learn new techniques and technologiesProficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant laboratory softwarePreferred Qualifications
