Pathologist Assistant

GENERAL DUTIES

Performs and/or assists pathologists in the accessioning, dissection, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of anatomical specimens as well as autopsy techniques.Supervises and trains entry level resident physicians in gross room pathology methodology and procedures, under guidance and within protocol parameters provided by medical professional staff.Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations, within established protocol and procedural parameters. Coordinates the acquisition of tissue specimens used for research purposes.Maintains a file of digital images, ensuring a high standard of specimen photography.Participates in the accessioning and labeling of specimens, specimen storage and disposal, and the maintenance of reagents and equipment.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.Performs effective troubleshooting and problem solving to ensure sample integrity and proper identification of specimens; interacts with stakeholders involved in the acquisition of tissue samplesParticipates in post mortem activities and coordination as needed


EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in a Pathology setting Preferred


EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree from an accredited Pathologist Assistant program is required for a Pathology Assistant if not a physician.  Licensed physician with greater than 5 years’ experience in Grossing will be considered in lieu of accredited Pathology Assistant program graduates.
