Job Summary

This position is for the D. Dan and Betty Kahn Health Care Pavilion. Acceptance of this position cannot be withdrawn if tentative start date is within the next 60 days. 

The tentative start date for this position is on or after 9/1/2025.

Excellent medical, dental and vision coverage effective on your very first day  2:1 Match on retirement savings.Responsibilities*Assist guests and visitors by opening doors, answering questions and providing emergency and directional assistance.Assist patients in and out of vehicles.Escort patients in and out of buildings.Assist patients to and from various locations.Ensure access to buildings and driveways by directing traffic.Maintain a clean working environment by sweeping up trash and debris.Maintain an ample number of wheelchairs for public transport.Disinfect wheelchairs.Ensure gloves and disinfecting wipes are stocked up and ready for use.Contact DPSS in emergency situations.Contact the Lift Team when assistance is needed.Required Qualifications*High School Diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred candidate with previous hospital or public service experience. Must be able to tolerate outside adverse weather conditions.Must be able to communicate effectively with patients/visitors. Must be able to work effectively within a team environment. Must be able to read and write English.   Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc. Computer knowledge. Must be able to lift patients in/out of vehicles, wheelchairs, etc. Must be able to drive motor vehicles as requested. Must be able to pass a criminal history check. Must have a valid State of Michigan driver?s license.The validity of the license must be confirmed through the Michigan Secretary of State and the same confirmation shall be done quarterly.Work Schedule

Standard hours: 40

Work days: Monday-Friday

Shift start/end times: 6:00am - 2:30pm

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
