UPMC Shadyside, a four-time Magnet-designated hospital, is looking to hire a part **-time Nurse Educator or Clinical Education Specialist** to join their exceptional Nursing Education team!
We invite individuals who are passionate about shaping the future of surgical care to consider this opportunity. The educator will support learning across the Operating Room, Pre/Post-operative areas, and the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). Ideal candidates will have experience in the OR, a working knowledge of Pre/Post-operative care, and a foundational understanding of scrubbing techniques. While we recognize that proficiency in all areas is rare, a basic understanding and a strong willingness to learn are highly valued.
**Position Overview:**
Nursing Education staff at UPMC Shadyside are unit-based, and this individual will work directly with the OR and/or PACU.
In this position, you will serve as a professional registered nurse with the authority, responsibility, and accountability to deliver high-quality nursing education. Your primary focus will be on new staff orientation, continuing education, and providing ongoing support to the nursing team. The role requires strong educational expertise to assess, plan, and execute vital educational programs that align with clinical and patient care needs.
Candidates will be considered at the Nurse Educator level, which carries the following requirements:
+ Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required
+ Enrollment in an MSN program is highly preferred
+ Professional nursing certification is highly preferred
+ 5 years of clinical experience in an OR and/or PACU
+ Nursing leadership or teaching/education experience is highly preferred
This role primarily operates during weekday daylight shifts, with the flexibility to engage with night and weekend staff as needed to meet the education requirements of the unit.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Lead quality improvement initiatives, utilizing research and evidence-based practices to enhance clinical care and drive positive outcomes.
+ Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement by mentoring staff on best practices, evidence-based practices, and research activities.
+ Take on leadership roles in hospital-wide projects, contributing creative solutions to complex challenges and facilitating cross-functional collaboration.
+ Provide guidance for staff professional development and retention, while also contributing to clinical specialty courses and educational standards.
+ Build and maintain strong relationships within the department and across the organization through transparent communication and effective team-building.

+ 3 years of clinical experience required
+ BSN is required
+ BSN waived if MSN obtained in a program not conferring BSNs
+ Enrollment in a MSN program or Master's in a related field is highly preferred
+ Relevant teaching experience required
+ Leadership and project management experience is preferred
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
+ CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
+ Registered Nurse (RN)
+ Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
