Part-Time Lecturer: Research Seminar
New York University
New York University (NYU) Berlin is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach a seminar on research and cultural criticism for the fall 2025 semester.
This two-credit seminar affords undergraduate students an opportunity to explore and refine their research interests and take initial steps to conduct research while studying away. This course is open to students from all disciplines. The goal of this research seminar is to train students in analyzing social phenomena, both contemporary and historical, from critical perspectives and in various writing styles, from classical essays to art criticism, to multimedia and internet-based practices. Field trips to local museums, theaters, off-spaces and/or self-organized initiatives are part of the seminar.
Candidates should be passionate about teaching, have a track record of academic publications in a related field, and be fluent in English. Important is a broad academic outlook and the ability to cater to the individual needs of the students. As the course is open to students from any major, with or without prior studies in this field, the course content and pedagogy should ensure accessibility for a variety of students. Good knowledge of and connections to institutions in Berlin are also essential.
The course is taught in English and runs approximately from August 28 to December 9, 2025. The course meets once every other week for three hours on NYU Berlin’s campus. The sessions are a mixture of lecture, discussions and field trips to various Berlin institutions.
