Objective Perform part-time operations of the instructional program by successfully teaching communications courses. Faculty members at Blinn College are unranked and have the common title of faculty. Essential Duties Blinn College expects all faculty members to demonstrate a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence. The essential duties of faculty teaching distance education courses are as follows:

Instruction and Classroom Management
• Provide an engaging online environment conducive to learning and teaching using features in Blinn’s Learning Management System (LMS).
• Maintain access to students through office hours and electronic communication; maintain an active presence in the virtual classroom with multiple logins per day.
• Provide ready access to students through multiple modes of communication.
• Prepare, maintain and utilize an accurate course syllabus, relevant content, learning activities, and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
• Utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media and educational resources.
• Maintain student participation and attendance in class.
• Conduct classes and final exams punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule.

Student Success
• Advise or refer students to available academic support, advising, and counseling services.
• Maintain a positive and professional relationship with students.

Assessment Duties
• Hold sole responsibility to assess students’ performances through a range of formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback in a timely manner.
• Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.

Professional Development and Service
• Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development opportunities and effective teaching methodologies.
• Actively engage in collegial activities in a professional manner across the department, college, and communities such as departmental meetings, committees, and Blinn College partner collaborations, if required.

Institutional Responsibilities
• Submit timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions.
• Comply with all college policies and procedures.
• Exhibit effective communication skills, both written and oral.
• Attend college orientations, required institutional meetings, and trainings.
• Complete the required Quality Matters training(s) to teach distance education courses at Blinn; successfully complete the Quality Matters course review and approval process to teach distance education courses at Blinn.
• Communicate frequently with immediate Division Supervisor and Distance Learning.
• Return all college-related correspondence within one business day.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

This is an on campus or online teaching position. Applicants would need to be able to teach face-to-face classes on the Bryan and/or RELLIS campuses or online. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Master’s degree in Communications

or

Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in communications or related area.

Please note that the credentialing criteria for COMM courses and SPCH courses differ. This position is to teach COMM courses.

Must be able to pass required background checks for Blinn and background checks and/or finger printing for any external facilities, per their requirements. Preferred Experience and Training 1. On-line teaching experience.
2. College level teaching experience desirable.
3. Credentialing to teach SPCH courses (Speech, Speech Communication, Communication, Communication Studies) desirable. Physical Requirements Required Degree, License or Certifications Master’s degree in Communications

or

Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in communications or related area.

Applicants with degrees in Speech Pathology, Speech Disorders or similar are not credentialed to teach COMM classes at Blinn College. College policy is consistent with sound educational practice and SACSCOC guidelines. Primary consideration is given to the highest degree earned in the discipline.
