Part-Time Associate Research Scientist

The Research Scientist will provide support in the coding and analysis of child language research data and will report to the faculty member serving as project “Principal Investigator.” T his position will interface directly with students and other research staff as well as collaborators at other institutions. This role requires professional expertise in child language development, considerable experience in systematic language transcription and analysis, as well as previous clinical/research experience (including in leadership/mentorship roles).
JOB DUTIES
● oversee and manage project-wide language transcription of existing recordings, using CHAT format
● conduct language sample analyses using CLAN software
● offer expert guidance on identifying research variables of interest
● advise and support detailed hand-coding of existing recordings, using established and novel coding schemes for behavior
The Research Associate will not be responsible for supervising any activities.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly pay range for this position is $26.00 - $50.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Master’s degree in speech-language pathology or equivalent experience
· Professional specialization in child language with preschool-aged children (e.g., Early Intervention)
· Substantial experience with language transcription
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.
· Advanced knowledge and understanding of child language development (including phonology/morphology/syntax/semantics and pragmatics) and developmental disorders.
· A strong academic and/or professional record
· High level of motivation; ability to work independently and as part of a team; excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail
