We have a new part-time opportunity for a Supported Arts Program Instructor in Kingston.
The Supported Arts Program Instructor will focus on providing educational and creative art classes in the topics including, but not limited to: painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, digital arts, and photography. This position will report to and work closely with the Regional Director in Operations, or designee, to help develop ongoing curriculum, workshops and a class schedule
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:
+ Perform a variety of oversight and hands-on tasks that include planning, developing, scheduling, promoting, and implementing supported arts classes, programs and activities.
+ Develop and submit lesson plans to direct supervisor 2 to 4 weeks in advance of classes (this includes needed supplies and materials)
+ Focus on providing accessible classes to people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, allowing people with various skills and abilities to learn and create side-by-side.
+ Conduct classes and workshops that maintains a 'putting-people first' approach to participation and contribution.
+ Oversee studio experience including creating a warm and welcoming environment and leading participants in hands-on art experiences.
+ Provide social media content to the Sr. Director of Communications
+ Coordinate scheduling of studio space 2-4 weeks in advance with the Director of CCAC
SCHEDULE/HOURS: 6-8 hours per week/weekdays - can be flexible
SALARY: $ 25.00 to $ 35.00 per hour
Minimum Requirements
+ BFA, BSA in visual arts/ art education or related degree preferred, but we will also consider fine artists with a minimum of 1 year’s teaching experience.
+ Experience in teaching, training, coaching or mentoring.
+ Demonstrate the ability to effectively teach fine art skills to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the general community, and can perform individualized teaching, making adaptations in teaching and communication style to meet the needs of participants.
+ Experienced in classroom management and teach with compassion and respect.
+ Experience working with people with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities and positive behavioral approaches preferred.
+ Experience working in MS Word, Excel and other programs related to the arts preferred.
