Purpose Statement This teacher will be tasked with preparing a small group of dedicated students for the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam. The ideal candidate will be an experienced, accomplished Mandarin teacher. This teacher must be experienced in numerous modalities of instruction in which learning is academically rigorous, engaging, lively, and communication-based. Experience with the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam is preferred. Responsibilities of a Mandarin Teacher The School’s faculty strives to set for its students an example of high ethical standards, moral behavior, and devotion to excellence. This responsibility involves the following: To maintain a climate of trust and mutual respect which encourages students to risk the questions, the opinions and mistakes necessary to learn. To offer students clear educational objectives for each course supported by appropriate assignments, activities and evaluation. To accurately assess each student’s progress and inform the student, the parents, the academic advisor and the appropriate administrator immediately of any serious difficulty. To show concern for and nurture the student’s intellectual, social, emotional, and ethical development. To work collaboratively with colleagues within the World Language department and within the Upper School.
