Position Information Position Information Position Availability: Position Title: Parsons Scholars Mentor Fellowship 25-26 Requisition Number: 0406073630 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: PSD/Academic Affairs Responsibilities: The Parsons Scholars Institute currently comprises two social justice and mentorship programs called the Parsons Scholars Program and the Parsons Scholars Mentor Fellowship. Since 1997, these programs work in tandem as vital access initiatives that seek to counterbalance barriers that students of color encounter in their pursuit of higher education and career opportunities in the fields of art and design.
Parsons Scholars Mentor Fellows support administrative and classroom support for high school participants in the Parsons Scholars Program. Additionally, Mentor Fellows engage in a self-led research project that culminates at the end of the academic year.

RESPONSIBILTIES Bi-weekly, 2 hour seminars on Saturdays Bi-weekly fellowship check-in meetings on Wednesdays from 3:00pm-3:40pm (unless otherwise noted, these check-ins will be virtual) Assigned work hours, including regular Program hours on Saturdays
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTSMentor fellows are expected to: Be ethical and responsible role-models/mentors to high school students in PSP. Be active participants in the Parsons Scholars Transformative Community Seminar Series, a biweekly, 2 hour series of meetings on Saturdays to take place throughout the academic year Make regular progress on self-driven social justice projects. Saturdays without a scheduled seminar are reserved for project work time and/or PSP assigned tasks Substantive progress should be made by the mid-term mark of each semester, with the goal of a completed project by mid April Identify an advisor of their choice (PSP full-time staff, Youth Advocate, faculty, or outside advisor) Present their research at one or more seminar sessions and/or Parsons Scholars annual conference or to outside groups of students, faculty, and community members Attend bi-weekly Wednesday check-ins from 3:00pm – 3:40pm These check-ins will focus on peer mentorship and will be facilitated by Parsons Scholars Staff and invited faculty Follow outlined work schedules and complete assigned work tasks on time. Regularly and accurately submit hours via MyDay Remain in good academic standing with the university, including maintaining a 2.5 gpa or higher, and completing assignments for all classes with fidelity and in a timely manner.mid-semester academic check-ins will occur, and decisions about individual mentors’ participation for the Spring will take into consideration the academic outcomes of the fall PAY RATE:
18.50/hr

In Person On-Campus Position – Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.
Minimum Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS A quality research proposal and its relevance to the mission of the Parsons Scholars Institute Students from any division of The New School Preference will be given to students whose work will benefit from and contribute to the interdisciplinary emphasis and themes of the Parsons Scholars Transformative Community Seminar Series. First generation college students and students from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and indigenous groups are especially encouraged to apply. Preferred Qualifications: APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Watch “How Art Gives Shape to Cultural Change” | a TED TALK by Thelma Golden Submit your completed application via the Google form by the application deadline. Each candidate must submit a 1-2 page summary of a research/creative project that relates to or incorporates elements of social justice frameworks. These projects should be framed in a way that expresses personal importance or relevance. Fellows will work on this project throughout the year Keep in mind that this project doesn’t have to be completely separate from your coursework Example 1 | your project can be related to, or an extension of your thesis project Example 2 | it can be an expansion of something you started in another class and you want to develop the idea further A project bibliography (A list of sources. It is recommended that you have at least 3) A current resume. A copy of your transcript. Please include a narrative statement about your grades/academic progress if your overall gpa is a C (2.5) or lower
