Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Park Worker 3 may be engaged in the performance of the following semi-skilled tasks and/or activities at a facility primarily involved in the operation and maintenance of regulation golf courses including parking fields, buildings and equipment etc.• Performs a wide range of maintenance tasks including but not limited to the following: mows greens, tees, roughs and fairways; aerates greens, tees and fairways; rakes sand bunkers; prunes trees and shrubs; plants trees, shrubs and flowers; applies seed, fertilizer, lime and other turf care products; maintains formal landscape areas; cleans restroom facilities; performs snow and ice control duties; installs and removes snow fence; changes cups, moves tee markers; moves heavy materials; performs other maintenance duties as assigned.• Performs a wide range of operational tasks including but not limited to the following: serves as a golf course starter and ranger; directs traffic and crowd control efforts; and performs other operational duties as assigned.• Performs a range of golf set-up and maintenance tasks including but not limited to the following: daily selection of hole locations and tee marker locations to ensure a well-balanced, challenging course set-up for park visitors; hand irrigates greens during heat stress period to prevent loss of putting green turf grass; and properly prepares divot mix (seed plus topsoil) and accurately applies the mix to divots located on fairways and tees• Operates a wide variety of turf care and other maintenance equipment including but not limited to the following: dump and pick-up trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, greens and tee mowers, riding rotary mowers, tractors, turf aerators, slicer-seeders, turf trucksters, chain saws, brush chippers, stump grinders, trailing gang mowers, spraying equipment, and other equipment as assigned.• Trains and supervises lower-level line item and seasonal staff, community service and volunteer staff engaged in the performance of operational and maintenance tasks including but not limited to the following: turf mowing, pruning trees and shrubs, litter control, restroom cleaning, snow and ice removal, crowd control, golf course rangering, golf course starters, revenue collection, and other duties as assigned.• Performs routine preventive maintenance and semi-skilled repairs on turf care and maintenance equipment including but not limited to the following: changes oil, lubricates required fittings, sharpens reel rotary mower blades, adjusts height, tightens belts, mixes fuel, performs other repairs as assigned.• Assists skilled trades staff in conducting repairs of electrical, plumbing, heating and ventilating systems and other infrastructure components including buildings, roads and paths.• Conducts inspections of assigned areas for safety deficiencies and corrects problems where possible and reports deficiencies to appropriate supervisory staff.• Carefully observes turfgrass conditions in assigned areas and performs field diagnosis of turf problems and makes corrective recommendations to appropriate supervisory staff.• Ability to safely and properly mix pesticides and subsequently apply those pesticides to course turf areas.• Ability to safely and effectively use and maintain golf course turf and other maintenance equipment.• Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OROne year of military service in any of the military branches; ORAn Associate’s or higher-level degree*, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; ORCompletion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trade’s assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.*Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States or its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
