Your main job is to ensure that visitors follow county rules and enjoy a safe experience. You'll educate the public, monitor park safety, and help protect our natural resources. Duties and Responsibilities + Patrol parks, preserves, beaches, boat ramps, aquatic centers, athletic fields, and sports complexes using a vehicle, bicycle, ATV, boat, or on foot. + Enforce county ordinances and park rules through education, warnings, and citations. + Provide on-the-spot educational information to visitors about park use, wildlife, and natural areas. + Communicate with visitors, volunteers, and park user groups about recreational opportunities and park resources. + Report and/or address safety hazards during patrols. + Refer serious incidents to law enforcement when necessary. + Monitor park boundaries and assist with basic fence repairs when assigned. + May supervise interns and volunteers in the field. + Maintain a professional and courteous attitude at all times. Additional Information: + This is a non-sworn, unarmed, uniformed position. + Park Rangers are expected to use good judgment and remain calm while handling situations involving the public. + Must be able to work independently and follow all county policies and procedures. + Other duties may be assigned as needed. Education, Experience, Licensing + High school diploma or GED required. + One year of experience in: + Public safety or closely related + Park or facility patrol and rule enforcement + Wildlife education or interpreting natural resources + Reporting or correcting safety issues + Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record. Training Requirements (To Be Completed Within 6 Months of Hire): + Lee County Code Enforcement Training + Parking Enforcement Certification + CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification + Off-road vehicle/ATV operation training + Florida Boater Safety Card (preferred, may be required depending on assignment) Supplemental Information + Four 10-hour shifts per week (40 hours total). + Must be flexible to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. + You may be assigned to different locations across the county during your shift.
