Required Qualifications: + High school diploma + Keyboarding skills + Successful completion of or willingness to successfully complete training in dealing with behavioral interactions with students + Successful completion of or willingness to successfully complete training in instructional support + Physical and emotional stamina to meet daily student care needs Desirable Qualifications + Post high school coursework + Experience working with children Basic Function: This person will be working with students, teachers and other building staff members to assist in the delivery of the educational program. The paraprofessional hired must be able to: + Demonstrate professionalism in the workplace and in the community + Communicate clearly and appropriately with students and staff + Work effectively and cooperatively with others + Follow directions of supervising teacher and building administrator(s) + Exercise maturity and sound judgment in making decisions + Maintain accurate records + Assist teacher in computer entry of data and the application of technology + Maintain effective discipline based on the policies and guidelines of the District + Provide input and feedback to supervising teacher as requested + Support guided practice or monitor educational program as directed + Assist with accommodations for students with special needs + Maintain confidentiality + Demonstrate a willingness to participate in staff development + Meet the daily care student needs, including, but not limited to lifting, repositioning, diapering, toileting, restraining, etc. + Possession of a valid driver’s license. Presently, we have a student enrollment of approximately 10,120 students. A total staff of 2,522 employees (including 959 certified teachers, counselors and nurses) is presently employed by the Dubuque Community School District. The geographical area the Dubuque District serves is over 245 square miles and the District provides school bus transportation approximately 5,000 students each day. Eighteen school buildings are utilized to house our educational program: two high schools, one alternative learning center, three middle schools, and twelve K-5 elementary schools.
