The purpose of this position is to assist the Campus Director at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf so that a quality education program is available to enrolled students who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or deafblind, from birth to 22, including support for individual students, coordination and communication between departments, and organization of special activities/events.
This position covers multiple tasks and requires prompt decisions and actions in a quick-moving and adaptive work environment.
This position also supervises, manages, and directs the special education program assistants (Paraprofessionals) so that special education needs of students are met, including substitute coverage, schedule changes, and other needs of the program. The person in this position must have strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. They must be detail oriented, organized, and capable of working independently as well as collaborating with outside agencies, schools, and company representatives. The ability to develop strong relationships and connect effectively with students, faculty, staff, and parents/families is essential to this position.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Completion of a post-secondary program in education, educational leadership, or a related field
At least one year of demonstrated leadership experience that may include:
+ Experience as a supervisor, lead worker, team lead, or project lead.
+ Completion of a State of Minnesota Leadership program such as ELI, SLI, or L4 or a similar leadership development program through another organization
+ A paid or unpaid position of at least one year leading a program or chairing a committee that includes identifying issues, goals, and strategic actions
+ Supervisory or lead work experience and training that incorporates directing, coaching, and resolving conflicts sufficient to supervise work of subordinate employees
+ Demonstrates the ability to provide training and support for other employees related to student needs and support. Able to provide training individually or in small/large groups.
+ Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel required.
+ Advanced ASL skills
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Bachelor’s Degree in education, education leadership, or a related field
+ Two or more years of leadership or supervisory experience.
+ Experience in the classrooms, supporting students’ learning and behavior needs.
+ Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential. Must be detail oriented, organized, and capable of working independently.
+ Experience with union contracts and human resources procedures/policies.
**Physical Requirements**
+ Ability to sit and stand throughout the day
+ Ability to lift 50 pounds with assistance
**Additional Requirements**
+ Successful completion of a Criminal background check within the past 12 months.
+ Ability to obtain required ASL and/or Braille certification (classes held on campus)
