**Job Summary**
The Paramedic – Emergency Department provides high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals across the lifespan, including neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations. Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and physicians, the Paramedic delivers technical and clinical support in a fast-paced emergency setting. Responsibilities include performing advanced life support interventions, facilitating patient flow, administering medications within scope, and assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This role ensures a safe, efficient, and therapeutic environment for patients and families, contributing to positive outcomes through collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.
**Essential Functions**
+ Performs clinical care and technical procedures within state and national scope of practice, including vital signs, IV insertion, wound care, splinting, and cardiac monitoring.
+ Assists physicians and nurses with emergency procedures, including resuscitation efforts and trauma care.
+ Recognizes and promptly reports changes in patient condition and supports appropriate clinical responses.
+ Administers medications safely and accurately under established protocols, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to the five rights of medication administration.
+ Documents all care and observations accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely manner.
+ Collaborates with the nursing team to prioritize care, support patient throughput, and promote a coordinated patient experience.
+ Prepares patients for procedures and diagnostic imaging, ensuring comfort, safety, and understanding of interventions.
+ Maintains, cleans, and stocks supplies and emergency department equipment, reporting any malfunctions or shortages.
+ Demonstrates critical thinking in responding to emergent situations and performs advanced life support interventions as necessary.
+ Provides clear, empathetic communication with patients and families to support understanding and reduce anxiety.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
**Qualifications**
+ Technical School completion of an accredited Paramedic program required
+ Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Services or a related field preferred
+ 0-2 years of EMT-P experience required
+ Experience working in a hospital-based emergency department, ambulance service, or critical care transport unit preferred
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Proficiency in emergency medical procedures and advanced life support techniques.
+ Ability to assess and respond effectively to diverse medical emergencies, including trauma, respiratory distress, cardiac events, and neurological crises.
+ Proficiency in operating emergency medical equipment, including defibrillators, oxygen administration devices, stretchers, and patient transport tools.
+ Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
+ Ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining composure and delivering exceptional care.
+ Competence in operating medical equipment and using EMR systems for documentation.
+ Understanding of state and federal EMS regulations, including scope of practice and emergency transport procedures.
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ LP - Licensed Paramedic with state registry/board required
+ BCLS - Basic Life Support required
+ ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required
+ PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support required
+ NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation preferred
