Paralegal - Treasury Legal Team

We are looking for a highly motivated, intellectually curious Paralegal to join our Treasury Legal Team. This role will primarily support Nationwide’s Treasury team helping Nationwide achieve its funding objectives. For us, it’s not just about having the right technical expertise, you need to be able to learn quickly on the job, work collaboratively and have excellent attention to detail.

While you will be part of the wider Group Legal function, you will sit within Treasury. You will be primarily working on Nationwide’s various wholesale funding programmes and will also support advice to the Treasurer and other senior leaders on a wide range of matters including regulatory capital, sustainability, ISDA and GMRA negotiations, investor relations, public disclosures and listing rules.

What you’ll be doing
As part of this role, you’ll:

Learn to project manage the various funding programmes, including transactions across a variety of products, jurisdictions, and currencies, which will include overseeing external lawyers, investment banks, auditors, trustees, regulators, stock exchanges, and internal stakeholders. Learn to advise on market practice, procedures, listing rules, and infrastructure of the international debt capital markets. Help drive the team’s document retention strategies and policies to reduce legal spend and increase the team’s value add to the business. Implement changes and efficiencies into our BAU activities as part of the team’s wider goals to proactively manage external legal spend and burdens on the business. Build foundational relationships, both internally and externally, with key stakeholders, especially across Nationwide’s trading desks, at key law firms and investment banks.

About you
As a minimum you’ll need to:

Be degree educated. Completion of the Legal or Bar Practice Course (or equivalent) and/or previous in house or private practice legal experience would be beneficial. Have a demonstrated interest in financial services, banking, capital and treasury markets, securities law, and/or the “plumbing” of the financial system. Have a basic understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks for financial services. Be able to manage a busy workload, deadlines and competing priorities. Be able to build strong relationships across the business, and especially with the Treasury teams, and become a trusted advisor, providing expert, pragmatic, timely, succinct and cost-effective legal advice. Be able to consider matters from different perspectives, thinking beyond a narrow legal analysis and about whether something is right and fair for Nationwide. Possess intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to ask lots of questions.
