As paralegal I – Litigation, you are expected to provide timely and effective legal support to in-house attorneys, clients, other paralegals, and other members of the Law & Corporate Affairs Department, as well as Starbucks outside counsel. We are seeking applicants who can collaborate effectively across groups and can anticipate and initiate routine legal tasks independently and as requested by Starbucks attorneys and outside counsel. A summary of key responsibilities include:
Working with Starbucks attorneys on the overall organization and management of claims and lawsuits, including subpoenas and general liability, ADA, and small claims matters. Performing early case assessments of claims brought against the company Performing internal investigations and interviews Assisting outside counsel with responses to discovery requests, under supervision of attorney, including reviewing draft objections and responses, gathering and providing responsive information and documents, assisting with deposition scheduling and prep of company witnesses Assisting with preparation and issuance of litigation holds Communicating clearly and effectively with internal partners, team members, and outside counsel Working collaboratively with primary and cross-functional teams on a variety of risk-related matters Maintaining files and records on mattersWe’d love to hear from people with:
1+ years of paralegal experience, with preference for general liability and/or other litigation experience in law firm or in-house legal department Superior organizational skills and the ability to evaluate and prioritize competing needs across a significant volume of work while maintaining high-quality of work product Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and respectfully, both orally and in writing Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Collaborative and team-oriented Reliable and responsive Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Strong knowledge of litigation processes and legal terminology Paralegal certificate or previous training preferred, but not required Experience in the food and beverage industry is a plusAs a Starbucks partner, you (and your family) will have access to medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, and other voluntary insurance benefits. *If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
