PARALEGAL
ENERGY ENVIRONMENT BUREAU
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION DIVISION
The Attorney General is looking for a highly motivated individual to serve as a Paralegal in the Environmental Protection Division (EPD) of the Energy Environment Bureau. EPD brings civil cases to enforce environmental laws, pursues other affirmative litigation and advocacy to promote environmental protection, and defends the Commonwealth in certain environmental litigation.
Primary Duties:
The qualified candidate will assist attorneys in the Environmental Protection Division in handling litigation, legal projects, and inquiries from the public. The Paralegal will be in frequent contact with agency representatives and members of the public, handle critical and confidential materials, and help ensure the highest level of professionalism in EPD. This is a fast-paced, high-profile work environment that requires the ability to work on a range of complex matters, often under time pressure.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Conducting legal research, fact gathering, and preparing substantive reports.
· Attending depositions, court hearings, and trials.
· Drafting discovery documents, preparing pleadings, and managing e-discovery processes.
· Organizing and maintaining files, reviewing documents and exhibits, performing advanced cite checking.
· Assisting attorneys in preparing for hearings, meetings, or trials.
· Communicating with clients, attorneys, witnesses, court clerk’s offices, and members of the public.
· Screening and preparing correspondence and answering inquiries from members of the public.
· Managing calendars, including the scheduling of critical dates, deadlines, and case-related appointments.
· Completing forms, preparing and filing court filings, and maintaining and updating case management systems.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions. On in-office days, employees are required to report to one of our designated office locations, either in Boston or at a regional office.
Salary: $53,762
