Responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the mechanical components of a locomotive's trucks, including wheels, axles, bearings, brakes, and suspension systems. Responsible for preparing surfaces, mixing and applying paint, and maintaining equipment.Role and Responsibilities
Adhere to all safety regulations set by the FRA, including proper use of safety gear and work procedures.Experience operating and maintaining processing equipment (i.e., spray guns, hoses, etc.).Knowledgeable in paint mixing techniques and ratios (i.e., primers, enamels, lacquers, thinners).Proper use of ovens and other drying techniques, including curing temperatures and procedures.Utilize safe methods of handling material, including chemicals, required in all aspects of process.Performing and understanding various mixing techniques, including testing of viscosity levels, and the effects achieved from different concentrations.Deciding on and performing proper masking techniques necessary to meet customer requirements.Proper maintenance, setup, use, and cleaning of equipment required to perform required processes.Regularly inspect locomotive trucks for signs of wear, damage, or potential malfunctions, including checking wheel alignment, brake wear, bearing condition, and suspension components.Perform routine maintenance on truck components such as lubricating bearings, adjusting brakes, replacing worn brake shoes, and inspecting and tightening wheel nuts.Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and parts used on each locomotive truck.Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment.Assess workplace hazards and risks and identify opportunities to reduce injuries and accidents.Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.Works under general supervision; typically reports to a lead person or supervisor.Qualifications
At least three (3) years of experience in manufacturing, painting, and repair settings.High School Diploma or equivalent.Valid driver’s license required.Skills Required
Strong understanding of mechanical principles and how different truck components interact.Capability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, grease, and dirt.May require working in tight spaces and on elevated surfaces.Basic understanding of railway, dock, and warehouse procedures.#LI-DNI
