Your mission, roles and responsibilitiesWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Paint and Glue Process Engineer to join our Automotive Interiors team in Fraser, MI. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting paint and adhesive application processes to ensure high-quality, efficient, and reliable production of interior components.
Key Responsibilities:
Paint Process Engineering
Develop and optimize paint processes to meet quality, appearance, and throughput targets.
Manage and troubleshoot paint application equipment, including spray booths, robotic applicators, and curing systems.
Monitor paint quality through visual inspection, testing, and process data analysis.
Collaborate with Quality and Production teams to resolve paint-related issues and implement corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations related to paint materials and operations.
Glue/Adhesive Process Engineering
Design and refine adhesive application processes for bonding automotive interior components.
Select and validate adhesives for compatibility with various substrates and customer specifications.
Manage and maintain glue dispensing systems, including pumps, nozzles, and robotic application equipment.
Monitor adhesive performance to ensure consistent bond strength, durability, and visual quality.
Troubleshoot adhesive-related issues and implement process improvements to reduce scrap and rework.
Process Support & Documentation
Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and control plans.
Provide technical support and training to production and maintenance teams.
Lead or support improvement projects focused on process capability, cycle time, and cost reduction.
Support new product launches and engineering changes by validating paint and glue processes and equipment.
Your profile and competencies to succeedMinimu
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in paint and/or adhesive process engineering, preferably in automotive manufacturing.
Strong understanding of paint systems and adhesive technologies used in interior manufacturing.
Experience with robotic application systems and automated dispensing equipment.
Proficiency in quality tools such as SPC, DOE, PFMEA, and root cause analysis.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
