Packaging Technician - Level II
**DESCRIPTION** **Job Summary:** The Packaging Technician – Level II supports site packaging operations under moderate supervision, focusing on process improvement, returnable packaging coordination, and adherence to Cummins Global Packaging Standards. The role includes cross-functional collaboration to resolve packaging-related issues affecting safety, quality, and productivity. The technician actively supports project improvement initiatives led by departments including Packaging, Purchasing, Quality, and Manufacturing. **Key Responsibilities:** **Operational Duties** + Coordinate returnable packaging programs, ensuring accurate inventory tracking and proper maintenance and cleanliness of packaging materials. + Support Document Management Systems (DMS) and COE India plants by maintaining accurate packaging attributes for PFEP and material master updates. + Gather and input data into PDMS for inbound/outbound packaging specifications and VPI programs. + Assist with revision control for packaging processes and materials (e.g., repack instructions, supplier data). + Perform packaging compliance audits and report violations using CQMS or through engagement with SQE and procurement. **Process Improvement & Compliance** + Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on packaging quality, sustainability, and process efficiency. + Collaborate with Packaging Engineering and Quality to resolve packaging non-conformances and implement preventive measures. + Ensure packaging material and methods align with Cummins Global Packaging Standards. + Support quality management by submitting packaging defect reports and contributing to corrective action planning. **Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)** + Stop work and report major safety hazards, injuries, or environmental concerns immediately. + Comply with all HSE standards, policies, and regulations. + Use appropriate personal protective equipment and correct hazards within control. + Minimize the environmental impact of packaging practices. **Teamwork & Communication** + Communicate clearly with assigned teams and cross-functional support groups. + Attend required site forums (e.g., HSE Committee, Quality Committee). + Participate in training aligned with business needs (e.g., quality, safety, packaging systems). + Maintain a clean, organized workspace and support planned operator care and maintenance routines. **RESPONSIBILITIES** **Competencies:** + **Collaborates** – Builds strong partnerships to achieve team and organizational goals. + **Communicates Effectively** – Uses multiple communication methods to convey information clearly. + **Customer Focus** – Understands and responds to customer needs with effective solutions. + **Decision Quality** – Makes timely, sound decisions that support productivity and compliance. + **Drives Results** – Delivers consistent results despite challenges. + **Ensures Accountability** – Owns responsibilities and ensures commitments are met. + **Self-Development** – Proactively seeks learning and development opportunities. + **Values Differences** – Welcomes diverse backgrounds and perspectives for team success. **Education, Licenses, and Certifications** + **Education** : + Diploma or degree in Engineering or Science required. + Packaging diploma or post-graduate certification preferred (e.g., from the Indian Institute of Packaging). + **Licenses/Certifications** : + Must have or obtain certification to operate powered industrial vehicles (e.g., reach trucks, order pickers). + May require licensing for compliance with export controls or international trade regulations. **Experience** + 2–3 years of experience in the automotive, manufacturing, or packaging industry preferred. + Prior experience with document control systems (DMS), packaging audits, and returnable packaging programs is advantageous. **QUALIFICATIONS** **Skills & Knowledge** + **Packaging Material Knowledge** – Understands properties, types, and uses of packaging mediums to select appropriate materials based on cost, protection, and environmental impact. + **Returnable Packaging Management** – Manages reusable packaging through financial tracking, fleet sizing, logistics, and performance monitoring to reduce waste and cost. + **Environmentally Sustainable Packaging Principles** – Applies sustainable design and selection criteria to meet reduce, reuse, recycle, and reclaim goals. + **Packaging Distribution Conditions and Dynamics** – Recognizes supply chain forces and ensures packaging meets hazard and durability requirements. + **Operations Integration in Industrial Packaging** – Aligns packaging methods with manufacturing and material flow for safety and efficiency. + **Microsoft Office Proficiency** – Advanced skills in Excel, Word, and report generation. + **Data Management Systems (DMS)** – Supports data collection and updates for packaging compliance and inventory management. **Job** Logistics **Organization** Cummins Inc. **Role Category** Hybrid **Job Type** Shop **ReqID** 2414397 **Relocation Package** No
