GFL Environmental is focused on reducing, reusing, recycling, recovering, and maximizing value from industrial waste with customers in a broad range of industry sectors. At the North Vancouver Refinery, we specialize specifically in oil recycling.
Reporting to the Finished Lubes Supervisor, the Packaging Operator is a leader in safety and efficient operating practices. You will be accountable for providing safe, efficient, effective, and cost-effective handling and packaging operations in support of the facility re-refining activity.
This position is full-time permanent and based out of our North Vancouver Oil Refinery. The regular work schedule consists of 8-hour shifts between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment.
Responsible for pail line production, tote & drum filling.
Assist stock and production management, including monitoring and ordering packaging supplies, empty pails, lids, drum seals etc.
Support drum trailer loading and offloading.
Assist with month end inventory counts.
Understand and follow all established SOPs and suggest improvements.
Supply management for spill pads and spill kits.
Support with blending coverage, including loading/unloading of railcars/trucks.
Must be able to work from height, with the use of fall protection.
Provide warehouse coverage as needed.
Constant communication with other areas to achieve common goals.
Promote cooperation between team members.
Actively participate and own our GFL Safety program by reporting all near miss/incidents/injuries immediately to supervisor and/or branch manager.
Lead in continuous improvement by identifying all problem areas and generate ideas or solutions to repair.
Cooperating with all team members in achieving team objectives.
The Packaging Operator will be cross trained in 3 different areas (blending, packaging, and warehouse duties).
Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications and Education
Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of two years of related experience as a Labourer and/or Operator.
Experience with blending, rail and warehousing operations would be an asset.
Forklift experience would be an asset.
Knowledge of TDG and WHMIS is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Solid written communication skills to complete the required paperwork.
Possess effective verbal communication skills to interact with Company staff, contractors, and customers.
Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and think proactively.
Work without direct supervision with only assistance from fellow team members and general operating and goal guidelines.
Excellent customer service skills, with strong work ethic and positive attitude to represent the GFL brand effectively and favorably.
Open to working various shifts, including weekends and extended hours to meet client needs.
