Packaging Operator

Job Description:

Purpose of Role:

The Packaging Operators operate and monitor all equipment as needed, meeting corporate quality and safety standards in order to maximize the quality, quantity and cost-effective manufacture of petfood.  Packaging Operators support all Senior Operator, Operator, Material Handler, Quality/Manufacturing Support Techs, Servicers, and may backfill for Lead positions as business needs require.  Cross-Training associates and completing training information in an accurate and timely manner is also required.

Schedule:

All positions are 12-hour, rotating schedules.Days 6:00 am to 6:30 pm; Nights 6:00 pm to 6:30 am- 4 days on, 4 days off.  Shift and team will rotate from days to nights every 12 weeks. 

Principal Accountabilities:

To maintain safety standards by using LOTO and confined space entry procedures when working in all areas of the factory.To operate all equipment as needed for the effective production of product.Communicate to different areas to prevent down time and quality issuesMake product changeovers on various pieces of equipmentBe able to assist in troubleshooting equipment to assure proper operationThis position and all site associates are responsible for quality and food safety.This position monitors quality and food safety controls points and makes corrective actions to the process if needed.Know and understand the site’s CCP’s and report any findings of deficiencies to site’s quality manager or designee.Cross-TrainFill in for all functional operations roles as requiredMay backfill for Lead roleComply with Mars Petcare Quality and Food Safety Practices, GMPs and other Food Safety and Regulatory Standards to ensure we manufacture a quality product.Responsible for documentation completion and quality in roles filled

Extensive knowledge of how each piece of equipment in the area operatesKnowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality controlAn excellent understanding of how each piece of equipment effects the equipment located before and after the production processThe ability to quickly change role functions as they move from one piece of equipment to another during the workday/weekThe ability to operate, troubleshoot various pieces of equipmentThe ability to evaluate and complete quality checks and document results using data base collection systemKnowledge of Statistical Process ControlCompletion of Better Processing School is required (although not a pre-requisite for the role) – company will provide training as neededFood Manufacturing experience and knowledge of food safetyKnowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.Great attendance and time management skills2+ years of manufacturing experience.Ability to lift 50 pounds.Ability to quickly respond.High speed or robotic packaging experienceMechanical troubleshooting abilityCareer Readiness Certificate (CRC)Computer literate with an ability to enter, record, maintain and retrieve information in a computer-based data collection systemForklift experienceMust be able to physically perform all job requirements of all functional positions listed above

Preferred Qualifications:

Food manufacturing experience and knowledge of food safety.Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.Statistical Process ControlForklift certified
