Our **Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD)** is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics, segment Procurement and the design and manufacture of Wear Components (Undercarriage and GET) and Maintenance Components (Seals, Tubes & Hardware, Hose & Couplings, Fluids and Filters). As the **Packaging Engineer** you will design and develop returnable and expendable packaging for individual piece parts and bulk shipping to ensure the timely and efficient receipt and delivery of material. Proper packaging design includes part containment, protection, and optimization of transportation and other supply chain functions. **Additional Information:** + **Location:** Griffin, GA (United States) + **Required Travel:** Up to 5% (Domestic) + **Relocation Assistance Offered:** None. + **US Work Sponsorship Offered:** None. **What You Will Do:** + Establish packaging and processing specifications at the part number level for new product introductions, cost savings, or other supply chain improvements. + Collaborate with all support groups including but not limited to Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, Purchasing, and Engineering. + Lead packaging projects focused on cost reduction for inbound and outbound. + Create packaging designs using 3D modeling software (i.e., Creo, Pro-E). + Lead validation of packaging developing for New Product Introduction (NPI). + Perform cost analysis on current packaging processes and recommend changes where appropriate. + Lead low-risk Green Belt projects. + Perform activities to ensure parts are protected, shipped, and delivered to the customer in a usable fashion. + Develop packaging solutions to protect finished painted components. + Design for transport efficiency. + Perform containerization analysis, testing, and quoting. + Validate new packaging and containers during the pilot phase. + Resolve safety and/or quality issues caused by current packaging. + Resolve issues reported by customers and process partners. + Joint Process Improvement (JPI) with packaging vendors and purchasing. + Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time. **What You Have (Basic Requirements):** + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related technical field. + **Effective Communications:** Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner. + **Packaging:** Knowledge of packaging tools, approaches and practices; ability to package products and components safely and attractively. + **Service Excellence:** Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner. + **Manufacturing Safety:** Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site. + **Technical Excellence:** Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges. + **Manufacturing Application Systems:** Knowledge of company and industry databases and applications used in a manufacturing environment; ability to operate, maintain and update these systems. + **Troubleshooting Technical Problems:** Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment. **What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications):** + Previous experience in Design Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain Planning Engineering, and/or Manufacturing Engineering. + Previous experience with heavy/industrial packaging. + Demonstrated ability in leading and managing complex projects. + Previous experience working within an operations environment that demonstrates knowledge of material handling equipment and line requirements. + Previous packaging design experience within the automotive or similar industry. + Previous experience with Creo or Solid Works packaging modeling. + Lean 6 Sigma Green Belt Certification, or previous Continuous Improvement/Lean experience. + Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, or previous Project Management experience. **What You Will Get:** Through it all, we are one team (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYIDne7Q5ek&list=PLwAXbfivFg0jmiNqqgFLeQJpRB\_i-UVln&index=39)  – creating and delivering world-class components and solutions superior to the competition.  Learn more about the Caterpillar Experience (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvCYWtWARlk&list=PLwAXbfivFg0jmiNqqgFLeQJpRB\_i-UVln&index=25) . **About Caterpillar:** Caterpillar Inc. is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.
