**Outpatient Counselor** **Job Details** **Job Location** Long Island City Outpatient - Long Island City, NY **Position Type** Full Time **Education Level** License/Certification **Salary Range** $20.48 - $30.67 Hourly **Travel Percentage** None **Job Shift** Morning **Job Category** Nonprofit - Social Services **Description** **SUMMARY** Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, provides direct counseling services to patients. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.** + Provides individual counseling and treatment/recovery plan preparation, monitoring and review + Provide therapeutic interactions to foster patient’s social, cognitive, and behavioral skill development + Provide psychosocial interventions to teach skills for coping with urges, craving, impulsive behavior and cognitive distortions in thinking, motivational interviewing techniques + Provide individual, group and family counseling, where appropriate + Plan and facilitate interactions with patients within the program to build social, emotional, and behavioral functioning + Prepare and maintain accurate and thorough case records + Maintain relationships with patient referral agencies + Complete utilization reviews in a timely manner to ensure continuity of care **COMPETENCIES (KSA’s)** + Ethical Practices + Judgment + Relationship Management + Emotional Intelligence + Empathy + Professional Boundaries + Global and Cultural Awareness + Critical Evaluation + Problem Solving + Decision Making + Communication + Teamwork + Crisis Management + Technical Capacity **Qualifications** **REQUIRED EDUCATION** + High School Diploma or equivalent + Bachelors Degree a plus **LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS** + Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in good standing **REQUIRED EXPERIENCE** + Minimum two years in a behavioral health/substance use disorder treatment program **WORK ENVIRONMENT** + This job operates in an indoor office environment.
