The Oak Ridge Metrology Center (ORMC) Front Line Supervisor provides leadership to a team of bargaining unit employees that provide technical expertise, customer support, and quality services in the implementation of the Standards and Calibration Program at Y-12 by imparting quality, efficiency, and safety into the daily mindset and activities.
Specific responsibilities include:
Plans, schedules, and directly supervises the work of hourly bargaining unit personnel assigned as their team. Work environments span from PPA to MAA and include a wide range of potential hazards governed by the respective Nuclear Facility Operations Management. Provides leadership in maintaining safe working conditions and proactively preventing injuries, contaminations, or other hazardous exposures to the workforce. Communicate with customers on priorities, work performance and schedule, and feedback loop on services provided. Proactively leads efficiency improvements within span of control/influence, portrays and promotes a questioning attitude, and eliminates undesirable conditions and barriers to work performance. Serve as communication link between team, management, and technical support personnel regarding problem identification and resolution. Maintain all equipment and standards assigned to work area for proper accountability, operation, and preventative maintenance schedules. Provide necessary training, materials, and access authorizations to personnel to complete assigned work. Maintain training and qualifications of assigned team members. Administration of the bargaining unit contract, participation in interviews and making hiring recommendations, evaluating performance, coaching/counseling/rewarding employees as appropriate.
This position is accountable to:
ORMC Lab Manager for mission and organizational deliverables. Assigned team members for communication, on-the-job training, work coordination, work barrier resolution, and personnel issues resolution. Facilities Operations Management for adherence to the requirements that define and maintain a safe and secure work environment. Customers for efficient, quality calibration services and data reporting.

OR an Associate’s degree in a relevant technical/science field and a minimum of 9 years of related experience. OR 13 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting. In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma and 3 years nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). Preferred Job Requirements Capability to read and interpret blueprints, vendor manuals, and other related data. Must have exceptional communication skills (both oral and verbal) and the ability to interface effectively with all levels of personnel and management. Must have good organizational skills, sound decision-making skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks at once. Must be self-motivated and willing to take ownership of responsibilities. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership ability, and be able to work in a team environment. Previous experience as supervisor and/or relief supervisor of skilled craft. Knowledge and experience in the calibration, repair, and maintenance of industrial equipment, facilities, and systems. Working experience in nuclear facilities.
