**OR Assistant** **Location:** Baystate Medical Center - Springfield, MA **Department:** Perioperative & Heart & Vascular Services **Schedule:** Per Diem **Summary:** Baystate Health is seeking a dedicated and motivated **Per Diem OR Assistant** to join our Perioperative and Heart & Vascular Services team. Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, the OR Assistant plays a key role in supporting safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. This position involves direct and indirect patient care activities, suite room turnover, equipment maintenance, and support of clinical staff throughout the perioperative process. The ideal candidate is reliable, adaptable, and committed to maintaining a safe, sterile, and patient-focused environment. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic surgical setting while working alongside an expert clinical team. **Key Responsibilities:** + Assist in surgical suite turnover and room preparation to support efficient departmental throughput. + Maintain a clean and aseptic environment, including daily inspection and cleaning of assigned equipment. + Report faulty equipment and safety concerns promptly to the Charge Nurse or Suite Coordinator. + Transport patients to and from procedural areas as directed; assist with patient positioning in the OR. + Support supply chain operations by stocking supplies and maintaining PAR levels; restock blanket warmers. + Pick up blood products from Transfusion Medicine Services as directed by the RN or Coordinator. + Participate in patient clipping and prepping under direction of Heart & Vascular TAs. + Assist with phone coverage and other unit duties as assigned. + Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to infection control policies and Body Substance Precautions. + Complete required annual in-services and demonstrate initiative in learning new procedures. **Qualifications:** **Required Experience:** + None required. **Preferred Experience:** + 3 to 6 months of prior healthcare or OR-related experience preferred. **Skills and Competencies:** + Ability to follow detailed instructions and prioritize multiple tasks. + Strong interpersonal skills; able to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. + Successful completion of orientation program. + Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude. + Ability to work effectively under stress in a fast-paced surgical environment. + Intact or corrected vision and hearing are essential. **Why Baystate Health?** At Baystate Health, we are committed to advancing care and enhancing lives.
