Optics and Simulations Engineer

Seeking an Optics and Simulations Engineer to join our dynamic team in the East Granby, CT facility where we produce fiber and fiber-based components for industrial, telecommunications, scientific, medical, sensor and navigation markets.  You will operate in a vertically integrated, technology-driven environment where glass design, process control, and customer-centric support are key differentiators.  This position requires a balance of fundamental knowledge, leveraging modeling and simulations tools and practical understanding of our manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate can propose effective solutions, has strong critical thinking skills and effective communication skills.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Design and simulate advanced optical waveguides to meet specific customer and application performance requirements. Drive innovation in fiber geometries, coupling efficiency, and light manipulation using tools like COMSOL, Lumerical, and MATLAB. Collaborate with Engineering groups to translate data models into physical attributes linked to process optimization parameters Offer specialized technical support to customers, applying systematic problem-solving skills (such as A3, 8D) to ensure optimal product performance.  Engage in the Coherent Phase Gate process for new product introduction, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define and accomplish milestones towards successful market release. Document and publish key technical findings through conference presentations or white papers to aid customers in adopting our products. Submit new Intellectual Property

 

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Optics or related technical degree  8+ years of hands-on experience in a high-tech continuous improvement-oriented manufacturing environment or experience in high-volume production environment Fiber optic or fiber laser experience strongly preferred

 

Required Skills

Proficient with simulation and modeling tools (e.g., Matlab, COMSOL, OptiFiber). Proficiency with programming languages used to interact with databases (e.g., SQL, MS Access, Java, Python, R, Labview, Matlab, JSL)  Strong analytical mindset; capable of simplifying complex data to guide decisions. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with proven ability to engage senior stakeholders and customers. Experience managing or mentoring technical contributors in a matrix or project team structure. Experience with asset-based data acquisition (Wonderware/AVEVA Historian or OSIsoft PI)
