DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for Maintenance and Operations functions as an OPS Lock Tender on Cross Florida Greenway (CFG) to maintain and operate the Buckman Lock and Kirkpatrick Dam as assigned by supervisor. Perform maintenance and minor repairs on the Lock and Dam Structures (maintain grease in fittings and lines, removing logs from intake grates, replace grease lines, troubleshooting etc.) Perform lawn and building maintenance, minor maintain and repair equipment used for lawn maintenance. Communicate and coordinate with supervisor, coworkers and visitors in a positive and professional manner. Establish and maintain good working relationships with Florida Park Service (FPS) stakeholders, partners and user groups to minimize conflicts regarding maintenance and operations activities. This position is required to demonstrate sensitivity in working around federally protected species such as theWest Indian Manateeas part of the daily job duties while operating the lock and dam and manatee protection systems. The Lock Operator will be required to work a flex schedule including but not limited to weekends, holidays fishing tournaments and 24/7 emergency storm events. Operate or work with gas & diesel-powered equipment as part of CFG maintenance and operations activities. Works to ensure safe operation in utilization and maintenance of equipment and tools. Operates state vehicles, equipment and vessels safely and is responsible for maintenance. Makes and documents routine inspections to ensure proper inspection standards are maintained. Interacts with the public and others in a friendly and courteous manner. Requisitions or purchases needed tools, equipment and materials for proper repair and maintenance of Greenway facilities and equipment according to state purchasing guidelines and regulations. Coordinates and inspects work performed by contractors to insure satisfactory performance to pre-established standards. Inspects and maintains building and grounds for safety and cleanliness. Performs other duties as required in a courteous and professional manner. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to learn and apply knowledge of: procedures and methods used in the repair and maintenance of the Manatee Protection Systems (MPS) at the lock and dam, the electrical system/s that operate the lock and dam, backup generator/s and the hydraulic systems with pumps, valves and cylinders. Basic plumbing and other equipment skills are required. The ability to lift to 40 lbs. Skill in: Using Hand Power and Bench Tools, capable of safely operating and maintaining a zero-turn mower and gas-powered string trimmers; Trouble shooting electrical and hydraulic system related problems, capable of performing minor brick and cement work; performing electrical repairs; pressure washing and painting structures and equipment. Ability to: maintain the cleanliness of buildings and grounds; determine work priorities, ensure proper completion of work assignments in a timely manner; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; maintain a Valid Class E driver’s license; Ability to work outdoors in Florida weather including extreme heat, humidity, cold and rain. Special Requirements : Ability to utilize basic computer skills, ability to communicate via email, knowledge of word and excel spread sheets and conduct and document accurate monthly inspection reports. Must be available to work weekends and holidays as required. Prior experience in lock and dam operations and maintenance is preferred.
