About Lihir

 

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose

 

Our Lihir operation in Mining Department is now recruiting for the position of Advisor People Training (Mining) based at our Newmont Lihir Operation in PNG.

 

The Advisor People Training (Mining) develops training programs, delivers training, coaches, mentors and assesses Newmont personnel in all aspects including but not limited to Haul Trucks, Auxiliary Equipment, and Loading Equipment. 

Essential Duties

 

Develops training materials, delivers training and aligns with, Newmont standards, Industry standards and HSE standards. This is including but not limited to all training relevant to Heavy Equipment Operations.Creates opportunities for people to work together to enable them to contribute to the business and learn from each other.Deliver theory and 'on the job' training for all operators in various sections.Communicate training plans to Team Lead and PeersConducts field observations and engagement with Operational Supervisors and Superintendents to understand the skill gap of employees and the business needs. Using that understanding to then modify training curricula to bridge the gap to ensure employees are fully developed upon completion of the training to contribute to safe production.Drives and influences proactive safety and productive behaviors.Ensures the recording of data into the LMS (Learning Management System) as required.Prepares resource requests (PPE, Tools, Materials, etc) of their work area and justification for the Team Lead for review.Actively seeks cost reduction opportunities. Understands the behavior of individuals and the effects on the team, resolving conflictsTraining & Experience

 

Minimum of 5 year’s experience in an Open Pit Mine Operation as an operator, supervisor or trainer Certificate 3 Trainer/Assessor or equivalent training in Professional Education/Training.  Subject matter expertise in Heavy Equipment Operations, and Training.  Developing training materials and curricula, proficiency in Facilitation/Presentation skills and understanding of Learning Databases.  Well developed computer skills – proficient in MS Word, excel & power-point. Driver License PNG Class 6 and 7 Good interpersonal, oral and written communications skills in English. Technical Reading and Writing skills, to be able to understand and customize national Safety Standards to Newmont training materials, and ability to audit compliance of those Training Materials. Mining experience is advantageous Proficient understanding of adult learning theory principles, practices and methodology. Proficient understanding of individual and group training principles, approaches and delivery methods. Proficient understanding of VET and VET processes.Working Conditions
