The Operations Manager, under the direct supervision of the President (or other direct report listed above), is responsible for providing leadership for all daily operations control’s operations meetings, warehouse, and fleet management, project quality control and safety.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Manage the operations department for performance, efficiency, and profitability on projects.Effectively supervise superintendent(s), subcontractors and field personnel to maximize efficiency and install roof systems according to company expectations regarding safety and quality workmanship.Manage project(s), project manager(s) and meet with customers, as required. Oversee and/or perform all aspects of operations work from inspections for bids to project close out.Coordinate with sales, project management and estimating and provide technical roofing knowledge and alternatives, as required.Maintain communication with clients, crew(s) and the company.Review of operating reports such as time and attendance records, terminations, new hires, transfers, budget expenditures and statistical records of performance data. Review wages and job performance for all operations employees.Coordinate preparation of operating reports such as time and attendance records, terminations, new hires, transfers, budget expenditures and statistical records of performance data.Willing and able to perform field inspections, both for quality and for estimating purposes, when the need arises. This includes reporting detailed roof information to estimating amongst other duties, as required.Provide leadership to the operations department and within the company.Study methods of improving work measurements and performance standardsEnsure equipment and employees present a clean and professional image, as required.Ensure service vehicles, equipment and employees present a clean and professional image, as required.Keep supervisor informed about significant problems and sales opportunities.Meet daily with superintendents and project managers to review the previous and next day’s activities. Partner with service manager regarding policy development and training about procedures to ensure consistency in repairs, maintenance, and service, as required.Identify situation-specific safety needs.Complete and submit accident and injury reports. Comply with all safety policies and procedures, be an example, and support the company safety goals and objectives.Understand and follow safety, operations, and administration procedures.Affirm jobs are completed to the quality level promised.Schedule and coordinate work.Track jobs run through the company software.Determine material needs for projects and submit them to purchasing. Monitor projects with respect to status and time and materials. Schedule and coordinate all installations including assigning manpower and vehicles.Perform activities related to project creation, scheduling, work order and project information flow, documentation, customer satisfaction and follow-up.Develop and use advanced planning skills for establishing maximum productivity of manpower, materials and equipment, etc., to ensure jobs start on time, customer expectations are met or exceeded, and hours and materials are properly expended.Determine training needs for roofing crews; organize and direct needed training in safety, quality and customer satisfaction.Recruit, train and retain a workforce.Willing to learn and teach best practices for roofing installation by fully participating in on-the-job training as well as periodic manufacturer training.Assists Project Managers in the preparation, review and administration of contractual proposals, contracts and purchase orders relating to construction projects.Works closely with the permit expeditors, project managers, design team and consultants to monitor and expedite the development process.Maintains relationships between the organization and outside consultants, contractors, and suppliers.Responsible for maintaining and updating the project management/development tracking tool.Receives, organizes, and maintains all construction documents.Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Knowledge:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively plan, organize and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality. Ability to read blueprints and specifications. Intermediate computer skills required. (Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Ability to budget, measure department and motivate personnel.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field, preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. Five years commercial roofing experience or an equivalent market, manufacturing or distribution experience servicing the commercial roofing marketplace. Experience with Microsoft Project, Bluebeam and/or construction operation management experience, highly preferred.
