Situated on the west bank of the Hudson River in West Haverstraw, NY, the Bowline Point Generating Station comprises two dual-fuel natural gas and oil-fired boilers, along with two GE steam turbine units, providing a combined capacity of 1169 megawatts. Opportunity Summary
The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician at Bowline Point Generating Station is responsible for performing all tasks associated with plant operation under general supervision. This role ensures the safe and reliable operation of boilers, fans, pumps, turbine generators, and switchgear. Responsibilities include safely operating, monitoring, and controlling plant equipment and conditions, conducting power plant chemistry tasks, and applying fundamental mechanical and maintenance skills. The technician also supports emergency response and confined space rescue efforts and assists other departments as needed. Additional duties include performing mechanical tasks such as using hand and power tools, conducting equipment maintenance, and executing routine repairs.
Your scope of responsibility as O&M Technician includes the following primary functions:
Follow Bowline's Conduct of Operations and plant procedures while performing basic operating watch station duties. Safely operate and maintain boilers and associated systems, including fans, pumps, turbine generators, and switchgear. Monitor and control plant conditions by regularly checking pressures, flows, valves, temperatures, and various equipment readings. Handle fuel and ensure its proper utilization throughout the plant. Perform power plant chemistry tasks, including wastewater management and testing of water, steam, oil, fuel, environmental conditions, and system performance. Conduct condensate makeup processing and make necessary adjustments to maintain proper boiler chemistry and water conditioning. Execute Lock-out/Tag-out (LOTO) procedures to ensure personnel safety during maintenance activities. Participate in emergency response drills and confined space rescue team duties. Apply basic mechanical and maintenance skills to assist in equipment upkeep and repairs as assigned. Perform basic mechanical tasks such as changing and cleaning filters, rigging, painting, adjusting valve packing, packing valves (2" or less), replacing gaskets (2" or less), repairing tubing, cleaning or plugging condenser/cooler boxes and tubes, sootblower extraction, minor repairs, lubrication, and assisting other classifications as needed. Assist other departments as assigned to support plant-wide operations. Operate company vehicles and equipment, and complete housekeeping duties as required. Perform administrative tasks to support the work management process, including submitting timekeeping records, material requests, and incident reports. Working Relationships
The O&M Technician reports to the Operations Shift Supervisor and may give direction to other hourly personnel on matters pertaining to plant operations and maintenance.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
The O&M Technician follows a modified DuPont rotating 12-hour shift schedule, ensuring 24/7 coverage through a structured rotation of day and night shifts that includes built-in rest days to support continuous and reliable plant operations.
This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status may also be required.
Compensation
This position offers a base pay rate of $45.54 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.
Core Qualifications and Skills
We are seeking a skilled Operator with a foundation in power generation operations, along with a proven ability to support team success and consistently meet performance standards.
An Associate degree in Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance or instrumentation and control is beneficial, though not required. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis. Successful completion of the qualification program for Operations & Maintenance Technician 1 is required. Prior experience in a power plant environment and familiarity with operations and maintenance of boilers, associated systems, fans, pumps, turbine generators, and switchgear is highly desirable and will be considered an advantage for this position. Must be safety-conscious and adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Understanding of boiler chemistry, including the ability to perform adjustments and chemical treatments to maintain proper boiler and water conditioning. Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools for equipment maintenance and repair. Willingness to participate in emergency response activities and confined space rescue team duties as needed. Capable of performing a wide range of tasks, including housekeeping duties and supporting other classifications to ensure smooth plant operations. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to work collaboratively as part of a team.
