Operating Engineer
**Job Title: Operating Engineer** **Job Description** The Operating Engineer works collaboratively under the guidance of the Assistant Chief and 1st Class Engineers to address facility issues and customer concerns. This role involves supporting the operation, maintenance, and repair of energy management systems and managing afterhours and weekend requests. The engineer may also assume the responsibilities of other roles such as 3rd Class Engineers, Water Treatment Specialist, Facilities Maintenance Technician, or Pump Maintenance Technician when necessary. **Responsibilities** + Resolve facility issues and customer concerns efficiently. + Support the operation, maintenance, and repair of energy management systems. + Manage afterhours and weekend requests. + Perform duties of other roles in their absence, including Water Treatment Specialist and Facilities Maintenance Technician. **Essential Skills** + DC 3rd Class Steam Engineers license (non-restricted). + Valid driver's license. + 1 year of Energy Management System usage. + Microsoft Office skills & email usage. + Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. + Ability to work in confined spaces and areas with temperature extremes. **Additional Skills & Qualifications** + High school diploma or equivalent. + 1-3 years of relevant experience. + Associate's degree. + Facilities Management Certificate. + LEED Green Associate. + 2-4 years of relevant experience. + At least 2 years of experience in a central plant operation. + 2-3 years troubleshooting HVAC Systems & Central Plant. + Budgetary experience. + Ability to read blueprints. **Why Work Here?** Enjoy comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision plans, a retirement plan with a generous match, tuition remission, and education benefits for dependent children. As a relief position with 24/7 coverage, the employee must be prepared to work consecutive shifts if necessary and respond to nonscheduled shifts when called upon. The role involves field work, inspecting all university buildings, and driving an F-150 Service Truck around campus. The team currently consists of 10 members, with a goal to expand to 13 for optimal comfort, while aiming to add 7 more members.
