For the role of Specialist O-RAN Dev. Engineer we are looking for candidates with a broad range of skills. The responsibilities include:

Design and verify open source and proprietary IP hosted on FPGA and ASIC devices Open RAN DU/RU platformsSystem-level simulation of 5G systems and specific hardware-oriented algorithms with mathematical tools and behavioural models (C/C++, Matlab/Simulink, etc.) Integrate photonic components and optical beamforming networks into hardware architectures for enhanced signal fidelity and bandwidth. Develop standardized HW/SW interfaces to simplify multi-vendor inter-operable solutions for DU/RUDeliver energy-efficient hardware modules validated through both simulation and on-board measurements. Deliver microelectronics innovationDevelop, evaluate, implement, and maintain processes, tools, training, and technology related to the company’s approach to model-based systems engineering.To participate in Agile projects building the required solutions. To ideate, develop and deliver chip development projects that allow Vodafone for differentiation. To design and implement APIs and data modelling on the different interfaces defined by O-RAN ALLIANCE    

 

What you bring

Bachelor’s in Telecom, Electronics, EE, CS, or related with hands-on experience

Experience in Digital Predistortion & Power Amplifier modeling

1+ yr in hardware design/verification on FPGA (incl. RFSoC) platforms

1+ yr in 5G/4G RAN, strong in PHY layer & protocol stacks

Advanced Open RAN knowledge

Strong in VHDL, Verilog, HLS (Intel, AMD) & FPGA/chip design flows

Deep knowledge of 5G test tools/processes

Expert in Interface Definition Languages & abstraction mechanisms

Embedded real-time development & timing-critical scheduling

Hardware precision optimization (fixed/custom floating point)

Familiar with 3GPP, GSMA, O-RAN, ONAP standards & orgs

Plus: photonics, optical signal processing, beamforming networks

Skilled in modern hardware design/verification practices

Experience in model-based systems engineering

Experience in Digital Predistortion algorithms for linearizing RF transmitters & Power Amplifier architectures (Doherty, LMBA, GaN-based, LDMOS-based, etc.) validation

Familiarity with linearity-efficiency trade-offs and envelope tracking techniques

Interpreting KPIs such as efficiency, gain, EVM, and output power

Familiarity with O-RAN interfaces (e.g., Open Fronthaul) and interoperability testing

Understanding of RU system architecture and its interaction with DU/CU layers

Keysight lab equipment (spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, etc)

Strong communication, teamwork, analysis & problem-solving

Fast-paced team player

Advanced Process Engineering & planning skills
