Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) (Remote)

Description

The Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) plays a critical role in the collection, analysis, and reporting of cancer data to support clinical research, treatment planning, and public health initiatives. This position ensures the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of oncology data in compliance with national standards and institutional requirements. ICF is seeking to assemble a cadre of seasoned and dedicated ODSs to work through its federal clients’ backlog of incomplete cases in suspense and perform case ascertainment, data curation, and completing case submissions.  This is a remote position; however, there could be rare occasions when the ODS needs to be onsite at a client’s treatment facility. 

Successful candidates must hold (and maintain) a current ODS certification by the National Cancer Registrars Association; and the ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and committed to advancing cancer surveillance and outcomes through high-quality data management.

Key Responsibilities:

Abstract, analyze, and code clinical data from medical records using standardized classification systems.Code, stage, and enter data into the registry database. Each case is added to the tumor registry utilizing ICD-O-3, ICD-10-CM, AJCC TNM 8th ed. (Tumor, Nodes, Metastasis), SEER Program Coding and Staging Manual, Solid Tumor Rules, and STORE Manual as well as other required standard setter coding manuals.Comply with reporting requirements of state central cancer registry, the American College of Surgeon's Commission on Cancer, and the clients’ Central Cancer Registry.Conduct records maintenance, including submission of complete case abstractEnsure compliance with the standards set by the Commission on Cancer (CoC), SEER, and other regulatory bodies.Participate in quality assurance activities and data audits to ensure data integrity.Prepare and submit timely reports when requested for internal and external stakeholders.Stay current with changes in coding standards, cancer reporting guidelines, and registry software.Maintain CTR credentials through the National Cancer Registrar's Association (NCRA)

Mandatory Qualifications:

Current and sustained ODS certification by the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA).Minimum of 3 years of experience in a tumor registry role as an ODS or CTR.Minimum of 2 years of proficiency in ICD-O-3 coding.Minimum of 2 years of working knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and DMS coding systems.Minimum of 2 years’ experience applying strong analytical and organizational skills.Ability to demonstrate at least 3 years of proficiency utilizing cancer registry software and working with electronic health record systems.Ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.Minimum of 3 years proficiency utilizing various cancer registry software systems such as Vista, OncoTraX, ERS, Oncolog, cNext, Rocky Mountain, etc.). 

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience using OncoTraxExperience with data analytics or visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Tableau, SAS).Familiarity with cancer program accreditation standards (e.g., CoC).Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Public Health, or a related field.Experience working in a multi-disciplinary healthcare environment.Knowledge of HIPAA and data privacy regulations.Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$60,927.00 - $103,576.00
