About Lihir

 

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Lihir fishing and boating clubs provide access to pristine waters and beaches, while our onsite deli and café serve fresh local and imported produce, barista-made coffee, and freshly baked goods.

Purpose

 

Manage site security monitoring and protocols and investigation of security breaches.

Essential Duties

 

Monitor the mining site regularly to assess and maintain the security of the premises, inspecting for any signs of unauthorized access or suspicious activityProvide and compile all security incidents, irregularities, and violations, ensuring detailed and accurate records are maintained.
Execute promptly to security alarms, incidents, and emergencies, implementing appropriate action to mitigate risks and ensure safetyImplement company security policies and procedures, verifying that all personnel, visitors, and vehicles comply with access control protocolsAssess and maintain entry points, including gates, doors, and windows, to prevent unauthorized access and ensure site integritySupport in executing investigations into security breaches or incidents, collating relevant information and reporting findings to the security supervisorTraining & Experience

 

Understanding of the specific security protocols related to the property protection and transit securityKnowledge of mining operations and the layout of the mine site to effectively monitor and control access and respond to incidents•Ability to assess potential threats and understand risk management strategiesFamiliarity with local, national, and international regulations governing the security of mining operationsUnderstanding of crisis management principles, including evacuation procedures, coordination with emergency services, and maintaining communication during incidentsCompetent proficiency in assessing security risks and develop mitigation controls. Foundational proficiency in using access control systems and electronic security measures like CCTV and alarms. Competent proficiency in implementing and maintaining physical security measures such as fencing, barriers, security lighting, and patrol routes. Foundational proficiency in coordinating emergency and incident response plans, including the ability to quickly assess situations, deploy appropriate security measures, and document incidents thoroughly. Competent proficiency in in maintaining accurate security incident records and using reporting software. This role is offered on a 22/20 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from multiple locations in PNG to Lihir island.
